Greetings and thank you for visiting my webpage!
It’s a great honor to serve the people of House District 49 and the State of Colorado in the General Assembly.
I was sworn into the House of Representatives in January of 2009 and am serving my first term of office where I serve on Judiciary Committee and State, Military and Veterans Affairs Committee.
Like most Americans, Coloradans are also affected by the recession and economic challenges we face. While the challenges may seem great, they aren’t insurmountable and the greatest asset in Colorado is the people who live here.
My desire is to work for you – the taxpayers in House District 49 and state of Colorado while serving in the Legislature. I know you don’t need burdens placed upon you by government, especially now. I promise to keep your interests in mind while searching for solutions to the challenges we face.
Although I have an “R” in front of my name, I do not believe that Republicans have all the answers, nor have they been good stewards of government they represented over the years. They did not hold true to their platform beliefs and in many cases, lost their way. That was in the past. We must look to the future.
I have already proven I can work with my colleagues across the aisle in a bipartisan fashion in order to create good public policy. Three out of four of my bills were enacted into law in 2009 and I passed six bills this year as prime sponsor and five important resolutions. You can read about them by clicking on this link: http://www.leg.state.co.us/Clics/CLICS2010A/csl.nsf/BillFoldersSponsor?OpenFrameSet
I will continue to work with all of my colleagues in the legislature and there is no doubt there will be times we disagree. But, I believe it is important to communicate and work together in a bipartisan way when we do agree on issues. I believe that by connecting with my colleagues as human beings, we can find common ground on a number of things and work together for the good of the people of our great state.
I assure you, however, that I will not compromise my core beliefs and philosophy about how I believe government should be run.
I’d like to share some of my basic philosophy about government’s role in our lives. I believe in pursuing free market solutions that do not inhibit private initiatives because that will leave more of your hard earned money in your pocketbook – not in the hands of big-spending government. I will fight efforts of politicians to take more of your paycheck through taxation and “fees” and I will fight government mandates and regulation which strangles small businesses. I promise to also protect your constitutional, individual and personal liberties.
Shining the light on state spending is important to me so taxpayers can see if the state is being good stewards of their money. Last year I passed House Bill 09-1288 – the Colorado Taxpayer Transparency Act which put the states expenditures and revenues online so you can analyze state spending habits. You can get to the website by following this link: http://tops.state.co.us/
An important bill I passed this year as prime sponsor was House Bill 10-1140. I believe in supporting our military in Colorado and the Colorado National Guard is of huge importance, both regarding state and the role it plays nationally and internationally. The bill provides funding to build three new Readiness Centers in Windsor, Grand Junction and Alamosa. It will create nearly 400 jobs in the state and help jumpstart local economies in those regions of the state.
I am very encouraged and hopeful that the best is yet to come for us as Coloradans, and I invite you to work with me to make a difference for the State of Colorado!
Please feel free to be in touch and let me know hou you would like to help! You can email me at Rep.Nikkel@Gmail.com or call me at 303-866-2907 (wk) or 970-663-3506 (hm).
